After the Fire is a 24 in  x  30 in acrylic painting on stretched canvas. A recollection of the devastation left behind by a wildfire. The air is filled with smoke, and one can feel the thick layer over the land. Still, there is lifting of the smoke as the sky has a hue of blue, and we can see light through a haze between the trees. Large trees are left standing as skeletons. Each with its own markings. Old and younger trees, some dry and some green. Thick and thin trees are shown in variations of vibrant and muted colors.  Abstract makings symbolize different impacts on the now dead trees. Visible is the depth of the destruction created by varying intensity of heat and winds, fuel moisture, and duration of exposure. This painting captures the impermanence of life, of the fire, of its destruction, and the life that comes out of chaos and devastation. Small grasses and flowers find nutrients in the burned soil, and life finds a tenuous hold.
